Intended to protect the well being of individuals<em>, Take Care with Cannabis<\/em> provides insight into the impact of using the plant on a smoker\u2019s lungs, cognitive abilities, and brain development during adolescence and early adulthood.\u00a0 It discusses how to stay safe when using cannabis and how to avoid toxic effects.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_607\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-607\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vch.ca\/media\/TakeCarewithCannabis.pdf?xprOpenPopup=1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-607 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/drugpolicy.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Picture-3-300x205.png\" alt=\"Take Care with Cannabis\" width=\"300\" height=\"205\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-607\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Take Care with Cannabis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>John Carsley, Medical Health Officer for co-author Vancouver Coastal Health said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s our responsibility as health care professionals to ensure that anyone who chooses to use cannabis has clear information about how they can take better care when using.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While cannabis is illegal in Canada, the reality is that a significant portion of the population uses it. And when they use it, it\u2019s our desire to see them be as safe as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihra.net\/what-is-harm-reduction\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Harm reduction\u2019<\/a>\u00a0refers to policies, programs and practices that aim to reduce the negative health, social and economic consequences of using legal and illegal psychoactive drugs, without necessarily reducing drug use.
